Suitable materials: Non-reflective 3D objects
Size limitations: None. Ideally between 100 – 300 mm.
File formats exported: 3D mesh, OBJ, STL, Solidworks


2.5D Scanner



Name of tool: Roland Modela MDX 20 with scanning attachment 
Used for: Converting physical objects into digital 3D designs using surface mapping
Suitable materials: Any
Size limitations: 200mm x 150mm. Height variable, not exceeding 60mm
File formats exported: DXF, STL


3D Milling Machine


 

Name of tool: Roland Modela MDX-540A
Used for: Subtractive prototyping: milling of 3D shapes using top-down milling and a rotary attachment.
Suitable materials: Acrylic, wood, aluminium, engineering plastics, wax and compressed foam.
Size limitations: 400mm x 400mm, height variable
File formats required: 3D model such as DXF, STL or IGES
