CCDI and Limpopo partnership facilitates digital marketing for SMMEs

The Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) has partnered with the CCDI to assist Limpopo artists, designers and crafters to register on Peek - Peek provides a free platform for SA businesses anywhere in the country to showcase their work to a local and global audience, highlighting the very best of what South Africa has to offer.

Peek is an initiative of the CCDI and proudly sponsored by the South African Department of Small Business Development.

The Peek site is an important addition to the physical market access opportunities that we provide such as facilitating access for small businesses to local markets, key national trade shows and events such as Decorex and SARCDA, and international trade shows like Maison et Objet. We also have a dedicated retail shop at the Watershed on the V&A Waterfront that promotes and sells products from our member network.

 

Commenting at the Peek launch workshop in Polokwane, LEDA Head: Trade and Export Development, Emely Khunou, said:

“Limpopo has a well-developed and fast maturing arts and crafts sector. Introduction of the Peek online product marketing portal service to crafters and entrepreneurs in the creative field is consistent with one of LEDA’s mandate pillars: that of creating sustainable enterprises, by ensuring the promotion of the businesses and their products to a local and global audience. We expect that product marketing on the Peek portal will go a long way in generating sales leads and paving a way for large orders that will in turn contribute to the development of export markets for Limpopo artistic output. We are, therefore, keen to intensify our partnership with the Cape Craft and Design Institute for the benefit of our SMMEs and the province.”

 

CCDI Executive Director, Erica Elk says: “One of the key challenges for small South African businesses remains access to markets. Our philosophical approach has always been to find ways to take people from the margins into the mainstream. The challenge was not to build craft and design as a separate sector but to help integrate people into the formal economy and mainstream trade opportunities. With technology such as Peek we now have the opportunity to bridge the divide and create new ways for beautiful local products to reach local and international buyers and consumers.”
