Local designers create bespoke trophies thanks to CCDI Connect

Three creative businesses have been given the opportunity to produce trophies for the Western Cape Government’s After-School Game Changer programme.

The Game Changer programme works to ensure that every learner in no- and low-fee schools is given the same opportunities as middle class learners to develop themselves through sports, arts and culture, leadership and academic support. These activities are provided through a comprehensive after-school programme which is run by youth facilitators.

The businesses, African Collaboration, Streetwires and Red Hot Glass were chosen after a selection process which was managed by CCDI Connect – CCDI’s subsidiary that assists government and corporates to procure beautiful products from small local creative businesses.

Portia Masiyiwa, CCDI Connect’s Co-ordinator explains:

“The brief was that the trophies should reflect the aspirational and inspirational nature of an after-school programme that ignites the fire of learning for our youth. Each of the three businesses interpreted the design using different materials.”

The result was three beautiful trophies for the awards:

  • Handstitched recycled metal trophy by African Collaboration - NGO Excellence in After School Programming

  • Bead and wire trophy by StreetWires - Sport Coaching Excellence in After-School Programming

  • Glass trophy by Red Hot GlassExcellence in After School Leadership Award

“We’re very pleased to have been able to help these local creative enterprises to access this business opportunity provided by the Western Cape Government,” says Portia.

“It’s in line with what we do at CCDI Connect – to facilitate the procurement of uniquely designed, locally-made products from South Africa’s brightest design stars, emerging talent and creative entrepreneurs we work with.”

She added that CCDI Connect is currently working with local designers on a few additional trophies for other clients.
