Changing one’s outlook on life – participants at the Craft and Design Institute Knowmads learning experience programme explore their creativity and life purpose.

The CDI recently entered an exciting new partnership with Knowmads, a creative business school based in Amsterdam, to host a series of evening workshops as part of their inaugural Knowmads Learning Experience Programme in Cape Town.

The programme ran every Tuesday and Wednesday evening at the CDI during May, and over 20 young professionals took part in this innovative learning experience that covered aspects such as personal development and self-leadership, communication, personal branding and marketing, new business design and design tools such as Design Thinking.

“A Knowmad is a nomadic knowledge worker, a creative, imaginative and innovative person who can work with almost anyone, anytime, anywhere,” said Sorrel Carmichael of Knowmads.

“We were delighted with the success of the programme and to take young Capetonians at the start of their journey through this explorative process, founded on coaching and peer-to-peer learning, where they learnt to uncover their strengths and become leaders and pioneers of positive change.”

The CDI is a craft and design sector development agency and are implementing agents of the Western Cape Design Strategy, which aims to unlock innovation in the province.

Lisa Parkes, Programme Manager of the Human Capital Development Programme at the CDI said: “It’s implicit in our role that we build global partnerships for innovation and stay current in how it is being fostered in other parts of the world. As we know, the youth are our future entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders, and as the CDI we wish to play an enabling role in developing their future based skills, to assist them in bringing their ideas into the world, and to navigate the sea of complex problems our country may face in future. This partnership paves the way for an ongoing relationship with Knowmads and draws us into their network of coaches, facilitators and professionals comprising 200 alumni across the globe."
