We are excited to announce that the international software company Dassault Systems SOLIDWORKS has donated full commercial licenses of its 3D products and tools to the CDI.

Designers see SOLIDWORKS as one of the most intuitive computer-aided design (CAD) programmes for 3D design on the market. The products are easy to learn and use, and work together to enable users to design products better, faster, and more cost-effectively. In a highly competitive world in which businesses are driven by innovation, this software provides the tools to design and test prototypes without having the costly job of building them.

SOLIDWORKS has an easy user interface that comes from the software company’s understanding of the designer’s specific application.

In addition, a SOLIDWORKS entrepreneurship programme has also been launched in which local start-ups can apply through the CDI to receive their own software for free and get access to design, simulation and rendering tools for the first year. Software costs are always a hurdle in the first year of a small business, and this will allow full access to all the tools they need to get the concept launched and initial designs done.

David van Staden, CDI Product Support Coordinator, says that the software will provide creative businesses and individuals with the ability to develop designs to industry specifications.

“The software also makes it possible to design for various applications such as education, rapid prototyping, design consulting or industrial product development. Additional features include stress analysis testing, plastics fill testing, flow analysis and photo realistic rendering tools,” says David.

“We look forward to working with our partner, the SOLIDWORKS reseller MECAD Systems, and we are certain this software will be key to providing our CDI members with the opportunity to explore exciting design possibilities. We want to thank MECAD Systems for their continuous support and for making this a possibility, and we look forward to developing our relationship further.”
