The CDI has embarked on an exciting new collaboration with the V&A Waterfront which will see the pilot of a new market in the Silo District from this month.

The Silo District at the V&A Waterfront is one of Cape Town’s newest hubs, and it has plenty to offer – with everything from art to gourmet food and world-class shopping, the area has something for everyone. The District is home to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world, launched in September 2017.

The Silo District recently won significant accolades at the 2018 South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) awards for Innovative Excellence, scooping a total of six awards, including three coveted ‘Best Overall’ awards. The awards are considered the most prestigious of their kind within the South African commercial real estate industry.

The new outdoor market the CDI is coordinating will take place on the last Saturday of each month starting in October, and will run for six consecutive months. It's a great opportunity for locals and tourists alike to discover a unique collection of fresh, local talent and handmade products. It will include live music to create a vibrant atmosphere during the peak tourism months.

CDI members who will feature at the market include Indwe Designs (leather jewellery); Kafui Naturals (beauty products); Parkx De Kater (shoes); Konings (leather bags); Chipantha (ladies sandals); Unyazi Designs (watches); Ckho Ceramique (ceramics); Nomi Handmade (fabric necklaces) amongst many more local designers.

The V&A Waterfront is the most visited tourist destination in Africa. The average number of visitors to the V&A Waterfront is 1.7 million per month, which increases to over 2.5 million during the popular summer months as domestic and international tourists descend on Cape Town.

According to Fran Stewart, CDI Market Support Manager, the market will offer a unique experience to visitors and will provide an exceptional springboard for local talent.
