The new Silo Market at the V&A Waterfront got off to a positive start over the first two markets hosted in October and November, with businesses turning over more than R25 000 in total at the first event alone.

The CDI has embarked on the exciting new collaboration with the V&A Waterfront to pilot the market in the Silo District on the last Saturday of each month, where locals and tourists alike can discover a unique collection of fresh, local talent and handmade products. The market launched in October and runs for six consecutive months.

The Silo District at the V&A Waterfront is one of Cape Town’s newest hubs, and it has plenty to offer – with everything from art to gourmet food and world-class shopping, the area has something for everyone. The District is home to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA), the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world, launched in September 2017.

Fran Stewart, CDI Market Development Manager, said that the Market has achieved some good traction thanks to the location, with several new traders added to the November event.

“We have had some great feedback around the market and each month we’ll be looking at adding new elements which will add to the festive feeling over the summer months. This market has tremendous potential to help emerging craft and design businesses to gain valuable market exposure and generate sales.”

Here’s what some of the CDI members had to say about their experience:
