After seven CDI members collectively secured over R90 000 in sales and orders at Decorex Joburg in August, a group of five businesses saw over R113 000 secured through CDI’s participation SARCDA Christmas later that month.

SARCDA's retail trade shows attract wholesalers, importers and manufacturers, both local and international, and provide a professional platform to help businesses grow. The trade show was held at Gallagher Convention Centre, Gauteng in August from 22 - 25 August 2019.

Five Western Cape businesses at SARCDA Christmas 2019

We took five CDI members to SARCDA Christmas 2019 with the support of the national Department of Small Business Development (dsbd). These five creative business from the Western Cape formed part of the South African pavilion at SARCDA.

It was a very successful show for the group of five, who collectively secured sales and orders of over R113 000.

Here’s what some of the business owners had to say:

Jinae Heyns of Matsidiso, which designs and manufactures handcrafted shows and bags, says it was a brilliant opportunity for their brand.

“We hadn’t yet had the chance to attend SARCDA (prior to attending with CDI) and from it were able to gain 15 new wholesale leads, and have since already generated R25 000 in new wholesale sales. I will absolutely invest in attending future shows now that I can clearly see the high-quality leads that come from it and, with that, potential for new sales – which is something I wouldn’t have understood otherwise if it wasn’t for the opportunity through CDI,” says Jinae.

Thabo Makhetha-Kwinana, founder of  luxury women’s wear label
Thabo Makhetha, says she was very pleased to have received positive feedback from most of the buyers at the event.

“There was significant interest in the traditional straw hats that are made by a co-operative of women in Thaba Bosui in Lesotho. My highlights were meeting other creatives under the SA pavilion and getting to share and talk about our struggles and successes in owning a business in the creative industry. I met up with a fellow exhibitor, Ubuntu Traditional Balms, who was also interested in us making uniforms for their staff members; this made me realise that sometimes the exhibitors themselves can be your potential clients!”

“CDI has been of tremendous assistance to not only my business but to me and my staff. They are always updating us with the latest workshops and opportunities that we can take advantage of,” says Thabo.

Yolanda Donkers, founder of Yawa International, adds that SARCDA was a real eye opener for her.

“It was my first experience and I wasn't sure what to expect. CDI representatives Ayanda and Priscilla made the whole experience easier for me with their support and guidance throughout the process. I was able to represent my brand to the best of my ability. I also received a lot of positive feedback from visitors/buyers and I was inspired to do more in order to ensure the success of my business. I feel very positive about the future of Yawa International, but I couldn't have done it without the help and support from CDI.”

NEXT19 at SARCDA Christmas 2019 – 15 businesses participate

After a successful second trade exhibition in Cape Town in March 2019, a selected group of NEXT19 companies and special invitees are showcasing their new product ranges at SARCDA Christmas in Johannesburg.

The CDI's Next19 stand at SARCDA was awarded the SARCDA Gold Certificate for stand design.
