Tafara Mashingaidze recently completed an order of bespoke trophies for a CDI client – his spectacular set of wire dancers are filled with energy and colour and showcase a mastery of his craft. Tafara is known for his keen observation of society and culture in Southern Africa and his ability to capture incredible moments in time and motion.

“I started my wire crafting business in 2010. I work from home with the help of family members and local friends who provide me with most of the recycled material that I use. I draw most of my creative techniques from my former field graphic art, interactions and collaborations, and lessons l have learnt through the Craft and Design Institute,” says Tafara.

“Besides the much-needed capital to grow my small business, this order has given me a platform to showcase and share my creativity with the younger generation of boys and girls who are going to receive my trophies.”

The CDI, through its subsidiary CDI Connect, helps companies to procure unique, locally-made products from South African creative businesses. This includes corporate gifts for events and conferences.
