The Craft and Design Institute (CDI), and the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom, will be running an exciting two-session Creative Design programme focused on 3D printing and design. Our 3D Print Connect programme will take place in April 2021 for the creative industries in South Africa. A project of the British Council Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies (DICE) Research and Development Fund, the programme is limited to 10 in-person delegates in three provinces (Western Cape, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal) and will be streamed for people to join online. There is an application process to be a participant at the venues. We will also be making the programme available via streaming – so if you miss out on selection to be in a venue, you will be able to join via the programme’s webinar stream.
About the programme: - The 3D Print Connect programme provides more information and insights into the broad range of technologies within 3D printing and additive manufacturing.
- The 3D Print Connect programme of webinars will be broadcast via a webinar stream in the UK and SA.
- The programme will take place on the 15th April and the 29th April with some participant activities in between these two days.
The aim of the 3D Print Connect programme is to share expertise and encourage the adoption of alternate design methods and processes amongst creative practitioners, exploring the possibilities and advantages of using 3D printing technology in their design and manufacturing processes. We are looking for a diversity of participants from different creative disciplines including jewellery design, interior design, fashion and functional product design. Applications:
Register to join the programme online via a link (streamed): Designers, innovators and product developers with their own personal devices and access to uncapped Wi-Fi / data are invited to join the 3D Print Connect programme online stream, for which a link will be shared prior to the programme days.
Remember to register as a CDI Member if you have not done so already. Applications are now closed.

Apply for the venue-based programme:
Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the project will only host 10 (ten) people in each of the three locations. The same 10 people need to commit to attending both days (15th and 29th April 2021) and undertake to complete a design task during the intervening period. Preference for the programme’s physical venues will be given to applicants with limited access to devices (e.g. a laptop / PC) and/or access to uncapped Wi-Fi or data; we encourage applications from women, young people, people with disabilities and people from previously disadvantaged and under-resourced communities. Individuals can apply to join this programme in one of three physical locations around South Africa: Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. Applications are now closed. Note: If successful in this application for attendance at one of the venues, you will be required to enter into a participation agreement with the CDI. By clicking ‘submit’ on your application below, you agree to the Terms and Conditions of the programme. These are available to view: click here
