The Cape Skills and Employment Accelerator Project (further the CDI Accelerator Project) is a collaboration with the City of Cape Town and the National Skills Fund (NSF) to impact youth and women employment. Applications are closed.
Please click here read the full launch statement.
The CDI Accelerator project will train and qualify 200 machinists for the clothing, textile, soft furnishings, leather and footwear of businesses operating in the Western Cape. The National Qualifications Framework (NQF2) will apply and includes workplace, as well as classroom, training as part of a 12-month Learnership. The learner will spend 75% of the time in the business and 25% of the time in the classroom; this classroom time is provided by the Training Provider. This qualification will equip the learner with the skills and knowledge to participate effectively in workplace activities within the clothing and textile manufacturing industries. The skills taught will include pattern making, pattern cutting, garment making, and sewing.
You will need to provide a workplace learning opportunity for a trainee machinist for 12 months and be willing to provide them with on-the-job training specific to your business. An aim, but not a requirement, of the project is that the learner is absorbed into your business after successfully completing the learnership. We encourage you to apply soon to ensure you don't miss out on the opportunity. Businesses and CMTs who manufacture products in the Clothing and Textile sectors including footwear and leather, and have the need for skilled machinists with some or no specialisation; and who are building, or on the verge of building additional production capacity, are strongly encouraged to apply.
