SUMMARY OF BENEFITS
Participants in this programme will receive the following benefits:
1. Incubation/acceleration support for your business for a period of 10-12 months.
2. A comprehensive assessment of your business identifying your strengths and opportunities, and important levers for growth.
3. Using a design-thinking led approach, the programme will help you identify your unique business proposition.
The programme will include in-person workshops as follows:
Business Basics Intensive learning over 3 months:
A 4-day Business Basics boot-camp covering:
- The ABC of running a business
- Your vision for yourself and your business
- Your personal and business SWOT analysis
- Your role as the leader of your business
- Building your Business Model Canvas
A 1-day workshop on each of the following:
- Strategic Planning for Your Business
- Writing Your Business Plan
Your Unique Selling Point (USP) Intensive exploration over 3 months with 2-day workshops covering:
Defining/refining your value proposition development and product/service offering including: - Introduction to Design Thinking and a design-led approach for small businesses - Creative tools to foster Innovation
- Process tools to refine your product/service
- Introduction to Quality Management tools and systems
Hands on deep dive into your USP with: - Technical Advisory Support
- Makerspace visit and workshop
- Introduction to prototyping
Pitch perfect sessions where you get to practice:
- Interacting with customers/clients through a product review process
- How to pitch successfully
Financials for Financial Growth Intensive scrutiny, over a 3 month period, of your
finances and business growth strategy through the lens of financial projections:
A 3-day workshop on effective financial management for small business covering:
- Introduction to Financial Statements
- Principles of Budgeting
- Cash Flow Management
- Preparing Financial Statements
- Costing and Pricing your product/service
A 2-day workshop on the compliance environment for small business covering:
- Tax Compliance and e-filing
- Introduction to labour regulations and your obligations as an employer
- Introduction to export
Growing your Market Share Intensive learning about strategies to
market yourself, your business and your product/service offering:
A 3-day workshop to build your marketing strategy covering:
- The basics of the four Ps
- Exploring marketing off Digital Platforms
- Introduction to selling online
4. A dedicated mentor/coach for 8 sessions over the period
You will be able to identify and work through particular issues in your business/entrepreneurial journey with a skilled facilitator.
5. Plus 4 in-person peer/group coaching sessions.
You will network and share your business and life lessons with your peers in the programme.
6. Participation in 4 Masterclasses facilitated by an expert instructor/facilitator.
A Masterclass is an intense focused session, led by an individual who is a recognised technical master in their field. Masterclasses will be provided according to the most prevalent needs.
7. Network with a broader community of entrepreneurs through the monthly Creative Exchanges (CX).
You will be exposed to a wide range of speakers and experts on a variety of topics relevant to your business journey.
8. Become a lifelong member of the CDI and Orange Corners Alumni.
As a member of the CDI you get access to:

- Weekly webinars
- Business templates and other resources.
- Access to other projects, market and OCIF funding opportunities
Criteria for selection
- Entrepreneur must be a South African between the ages 18-35 years
- Business must be managed and/or run by the owner (Entrepreneur)
- Business must be an existing business with demonstrable history and traction and/or provide credible market research that shows viability if proposing a new product or innovation
- Business must demonstrate innovation and/or unique proposition that contributes to the SDGs and address pressing needs and opportunities (in sectors such as but not limited to circular/green economy, digital sector, agriculture and creative sectors)
- Demonstrate the ability to scale in terms of impact and/or job creation
- Participants must be willing/able to take time off from business and commit for a period of 12 months
- Must be registered, or confirm a commitment to register, with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
- Applicants need to complete the application form in full providing the basic business information required
- Preference will be given to youth and women entrepreneurs living in and/or supplying services to under-resourced communities
Responsibilities of the beneficiary
The Beneficiary must:
- Complete a comprehensive business assessment with a CDI staff member
- Be willing to be in an incubation programme for 10-12 months
- Attend all in-person activities
- Attend all meetings and network sessions
- Be willing to grow their product/service/idea to a point of market access and acceleration funding
- Submit all required reporting documentation and take part in all evaluation activities
Participants will be required to sign an agreement with the CDI committing to all of the responsibilities above. The contract may include additional requirements and will outline remedial and break clauses should the participant not be able to meet their responsibilities.
